Bonnie Hayes Obituary

Bonnie Lou (Davis) Hayes

December 14, 1930 ~ February 10, 2018

Bonnie Lou (Davis) Hayes passed at the age of 87 on Feb. 10, 2018. Bonnie was born Dec. 14, 1930, at O’Neal Junction near Redmond.

Bonnie went to school at the Lone Pine grade school and Crook County High School. It was on the bus rides to school where she would meet the love of her life, her husband Eldon Hayes (now deceased). Eldon would purchase candies during the bus stops to school and give them to Bonnie, to later win her heart in 66 years of marriage.

Bonnie and her family (Otha Davis, her father) owned and operated the Prineville Dairy. They sold this property to the City of Prineville, and it is currently where the waste water treatment plant resides.

Bonnie and her husband, Eldon, were well known in Central Oregon for their participation with youth activities such as 4-H leadership. Bonnie was an active member in the OSU Crook County Extension group.

Bonnie was one of the first women athletes to participate in organized high school sports. She had an aggressive bat and was a fielder of choice in softball. She finished her sports endeavors by participating in a local women’s bowling league, sporting many winning trophies for her efforts.

Bonnie was always thinking of others and taking care of those in need. She used her home-making skills, from being a dairy farmer to making homemade custards and puddings to comfort many souls.

Bonnie will be missed as she always brought laughter, love and fun to her life and those around her.

Bonnie is survived by her son, Dennis Hayes, and daughter-in-law, Angie Hayes; daughter, Sharon Apperson, and son-in law Bill Apperson; as well as four grandchildren, Kevin, Cory, Lyndsay and Ali; and eight great-grandchildren, Allexa, Brandon, Chase, Baylee, Dylan, Logyn, Peyton and Hudson.

Additional survivors include her brother, Darrell Davis; sisters, June Pipkin, Vera Harper, Donna Smalling and Juanita Strawn; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Graveside services will be held at Juniper Haven Cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15.  Juniper Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
