Stanley ‘Stan’ Walker, 92, of Prineville passed away Thursday July 27, 2017 in Bend, Ore. There will be a memorial service on August 8, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Prineville, Ore.
Stan, was born in Saylor Bottom, Okla. on May 10, 1925 to Lloyd and Lennie (Kirkendall) Walker. His family moved to California when he was 13 years old, eventually settling in Bakersfield. Stanley attended schools in Red Hill, Okla., Wasco, Calif., and Bakersfield, Calif. He married Lou Burris in 1963 and they had four children. Stan moved his family to Prineville in 1971.
Stan entered the Navy in 1944 at the age of 19, serving during WWII. He earned the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 2nd class aboard the USS LST 226 and was honorably discharged in 1946. During Stan’s time in the Navy, he travelled to The Philippines, Shanghai, Hong Kong and took the opportunity to walk on the Great Wall of China. After serving in the Navy, he began his career of driving truck. He drove for various companies, becoming owner/operator in 1978.
Stan retired from truck driving in 1985, but then realized retirement wasn’t for him. He opened Stan’s Produce in Bend, Ore. eventually moving the business to Prineville, Ore. He ran his very successful produce stand for 28 years. He enjoyed drawing and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed going to church and attended various churches over the years.
Stan is survived by his three daughters, Tina Lemay, Shelly (Ray) Glass, and Tasha (Marvin) Harris, and his only son, Shannon (Cynthia) Walker. He also has 11 grandchildren, Justin Lemay, Amber Sims, Jason Lemay, Chad Lemay, Heather Jewell, Brandon Glass, Drew Harris, Brett Harris, Cameron Harris, Angelea Cane, and Steven Haney, and four great grandchildren, Kylie Jewell, Aspen Jewell, Darrien Cane, and Alex Cane. He also leaves behind two nieces and one nephew.
Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Lennie, and two sisters, Pauline and Iva Jean.
Arrangements are being held by Juniper Ridge Funeral Home.
